Webb Sensation?

(Photo the property of AP Photo)

Polo Ralph Lauren announced officially today that it has signed former Wake Forest standout Webb Simpson to a multi-year deal. Webb will sport Polo Golf designs and serve as an ambassador for the brand - along with Davis Love III, Tom Watson and Jonathan Byrd - as he searches for his first PGA Tour win in 2010...

Polo Golf rarely adds to its roster and the Webb acquisition is a perfect match. As someone remarked to me recently, Webb is a "mini-Davis," of sorts... He has that preppy, Southern-shag thing going and he looks fantastic in the clothing.

An official press conference will be held at the PGA Show and we're going to try to sit down with Webb at some point and talk a little shop...

I'm beginning to think the person who posted this on the previous blog is correct

"What you guys know about style you could fit on the back of a postage stamp, with room to spare!"

Ralph Lauren...and who ever Webb is I don't know. Are you telling me this is news worthy? RL has been out of FASHION for 20years and its not even a golf brand. Tom Watson I love as a golfer but why would you have him lead your brand?
Old middle aged white guys.
Come on man raise your game, don't post just from the sake of it. I had high hopes for you dude! Lets get this blog over to the edge and becoming a leader in golf!

With reference to the 1st comment. It's a fine line between being a corporate poster boy, and an individual with a sense of style. It's more or less impossible for a sponsored pro to really show his own fashion sense. Brands move at such an alarming rate. Our poster boys are often asked or even told what to wear, especially during the week of a major.Follow the guys home and see what they wear!. . . We may be grateful big brands dress them. By the way, you will know Webb, Lovemark, Fowler and other Walker cuppers given time!

Anonymous #1, stick to frisbee golf. Webb Simpson was all over the place last year for those who didn't just follow the top ten dudes and watch majors only. Polo not a golf brand? I won't even address that.

Snipes if you think Polo is a golf brand you are obviously delusional or probably an accountant! Its for old men!!

Isn't Polo a hint? Its another way for a large brand to sell the same garments to an aspiring customer.

Webb Simpson maybe all over the place but he looks like an accountant at a golf day in these pictures on this post!!!

Anon: While I always appreciate the comments - constructive or otherwise - one of my favorite brands signing an exciting, young player is news worthy to me and will continue to be. It's perfectly realistic to think of Polo Golf as an older customer's brand - yes, that's their demographic. That's why I think it's a cool challenge that they signed a 20-something golfer - I think it will push them towards thinking a little 'younger' with some of their offerings - which I believe to be a victory for everyone who enjoys golf apparel...

What is a golf brand anyway? Most have history in either fashion or other sports. Anyhow, you shouldn't be lead by a manufacturer but the garment itself. Accountant or hip hop artist.

anonymous...how do you it a hook?, what type of shot do you play around the greens when you are in zosza ruff??, why are bent grass greens faster???, and tell me how you played the 16th at cypress...in addition, answer me this: what was the iconic golf fashion in the thirties versus the fourties? who was the pioneer for fashion in golf (couple choices here so up for debate, i get that)?? what is the current trend in golf fashion??? and, what do you believe the trend will be in golf fashion????

If you can answer me these questions in an intelligent manner then I will grant you permission to speak on this blog seeing that your previous blogs have been unconstructive, incorrect, and dogamtic...until then, please do not clutter this interesting space that those who do play golf and care for appearances like to look at.

Just discovered your blog while shopping for a new pair of golf shoes. I finally found the FJ Icon in saddle white and searched for a review on it which is how I landed here. Great stuff.
